Australia tackles alcohol abuse in sport
The Australian Football League (AFL) has unveiled plans to address excessive drinking among its players, a move which has been welcomed by the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF).
A survey conducted in 2001 revealed that 34 per cent of Australians aged 14 years and over had placed themselves at short-term risk on at least one drinking occasion during the previous 12 months, and around ten per cent drink at levels which could pose long-term health risks.
