A new service is helping alcoholics and drug addicts integrate back into mainstream society by creating a clothes bank that can be used for interviews and court appearances.
The First Judicial District Adult Drug Court Enhanced Treatment for Drug Offenders Program has set up a service called The Men's Closet where clothes such as suits and ties are donated so those undergoing drug and alcohol treatment can try and get their lives back in order.
Cecilia Garceau, program coordinator through the Caddo Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, explained the rationale behind the scheme to the Shreveport Times.
"When we began to recognise that many of our clients did not have the means to buy the right clothes for a job interview or a court appearance, that's when we paired with other community agencies to provide the clothes," she said.
"Since we have started the clothing drive, we have received numerous donations from Shreveport Fire Department and various agencies, community members and as well as the Friends of the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse," Ms Garceau said.
Dennis Holmes, social substance abuse counselor in training, added: "When you're dressed up, you act different and you feel different."
