Representatives from the University of Wyoming's (UW's) alcohol education programme have been invited to speak at a prestigious national conference, reflecting the success of the programme.
Lena Edmunds, coordinator of the university's Alcohol Wellness Alternatives, Research and Education (Aware) programme, and Suzanne Harle, area coordinator of Residence Life, gave a talk on the initiative at the national meeting, which examined alcohol abuse prevention issues on college campuses.
Ms Harle said that the collaboration was created to address alcohol issues on the UW campus and that the presentation offered an opportunity to showcase the programme's "great work".
"This collaboration is key to providing educational opportunities and experiences to our first-year students living in the residence halls. The collaboration is successful because of the strong foundation that has been built," she revealed.
Ms Edmunds said that the work being done at UW is "quite innovative" as many campus alcohol awareness programmes do not collaborate with other campus departments.
She claimed: "Participants liked our comprehensive plan that gets students involved in the programme.
"They liked that we are taking a proactive approach in dealing with alcohol issues on our campus."
